World Ostomy Day 2015

 

 

WOD was held at the Stadium Tavern in Alexandra on 3rd October 2015. 33 people attended with 25 travelling by bus, we enjoyed a lovely lunch, Otago Ostomy Society President Phil Elliot welcomed those present and talked about the theme for this years mini-seminar  “Many Stories, One Voice.” Phil then introduced our speakers for the afternoon.

 

Dietician Silky Morrison who works for Nutrician and Life Ltd Nutrition & Life Ltd, a New Zealand Registered Dietitian, providing nutrition and diet advice to help people achieve good health and an enjoyable lifestyle. , her theme was "Enjoy your food after Stoma Surgery"

 

Caroline Coulter - a Senior Clinical Pharmacist at Dunedin Public Hospital, her interest in adverse drug reactions and in clinical pharmacy research due to previous research on drug design and development before training as a pharmacist " Medicines and your Stoma"

 

Donald Lamont - born in Zambia and worked as a Hotelier "living with depression and how he overcame this" Donald did this by becoming a living statue.

 

Norma Bethune - talked of things then and now "from surgery to appliances etc" Norma also gave an insite into meeting with Gwen Jones,  60years living with a stoma. (I hope to have more information from Norma's talks with Gwen at a later date).
